FAQ: Ravaged by Storms – Mythic Sandbox Adventure for Pirate Borg
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

What is "Ravaged by Storms"?

“Ravaged by Storms” is a 72-page mythical sandbox adventure module designed for the Pirate Borg tabletop roleplaying game (adaptable to most OSR systems), plunging players into the storm-wracked Death Wind Islands, where a mythical feathered serpent and rival factions vie for control of a forgotten city of white stone. Packed with deadly locations, ancient rituals, new generators, and dynamic exploration tools, this module lets GMs shape an open-ended, treasure-hunting arc in the haunted Dark Caribbean setting of Pirate Borg.

“Ravaged by Storms” is published by Golem Productions under the PIRATE BORG Third Party License and MÖRK BORG Third Party License. This Kickstarter project aims to fund a printed hardcover of the adventure (plus digital versions).

OSR is all about player agency and freedom of choice, not prewritten plots. How does a campaign module even work for that?

Good question. “Ravaged by Storms” also doesn’t follow a predetermined plot. It’s not an adventure path or campaign book in the way you might know from other fantasy RPGs.

Instead, “Ravaged by Storms” provides a narrative hook, a loose framework, and a broad objective that could motivate the player characters to explore the setting of the Death Wind Islands and pursue certain goals there. Ultimately, though, these hooks are entirely optional. The players are free to ignore all of it and interact with the presented factions, locations, and characters in ways of their own choosing. Of course, they may have to face the consequences if events take on a life of their own. The book comes with its own “How To Use This Module” section to help you run its content.

Alternatively, the GM can ignore the overarching narrative entirely, letting the players explore the adventure freely, create their own plot hooks, or integrate the adventure into their homebrew campaign in whichever way the seem fit.

Are longer campaigns feasible with Mörk Borg or Pirate Borg?

Absolutely! While we are explicitly limiting our answer to Pirate Borg, the game is great for long-term campaigns. Our own private Pirate Borg campaign has been running for 21 months with around two game nights per month and there is still no end in sight.

Users frequently ask in social networks whether the game is not too deadly or - conversely - whether characters do not become too powerful due to frequent advancements. In fact, Pirate Borg is not as deadly as many other OSR games once players have advanced once or twice. Our personal recommendation for a longer campaign would be to allow the first two advancements rather quickly, but then set the bar much higher. From the third advancement onwards, greater goals must be achieved or challenges overcome.

Running Pirate Borg mostly at conventions or game stores, I prefer one-shots. Why would I want to buy such a lengthy adventure?

“Ravaged by Storms” is indeed designed to be played as a multi-session campaign. Depending on the group’s individual playstyle and the players’ decisions, this could take anything from 3 to 12 sessions — or even more.

However, nothing forces you to use this book solely as a campaign framework. “Ravaged by Storms” includes nine fully developed locations, many of which could serve as the setting for a one-shot.

“The Scarlet Coral Citadel” and “The Way of the Worm”, on the other hand, are well-suited for one-shots but can also easily fuel multiple sessions of play.

What do I need to play?

“Ravaged by Storms”, “The Scarlet Coral Citadel”, and “The Way of the Worm” are self-contained adventures designed for Pirate Borg that can be played on their own. The Pirate Borg core book by Limithron is required and recommended for play.

Alternatively, with a few adjustments, the game can also be played with the Mörk Borg core rules or other fantasy OSR systems, although the game master may need to adjust and improvise rules, stats, and mechanics.

To play, you also need (physical or virtual) multi-sided dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20), character sheets and pens or a digital way to note down basic stats for the player characters.

I have already purchased "The Scarlet Coral Citadel" in the past. Why should I buy it again?

Thank you! First of all, if you have purchased “The Scarlet Coral Citadel” before on itch.io or DriveThruRPG, your files will be updated to match the enhanced edition without any extra costs. So, if you are happy with the PDF files, you won’t need to do anything else.

For the first time, however, the adventure is also being offered as a printed zine as part of this crowdfunding project. In this form it is currently only available here. So if you enjoy flipping through a physical zine with your own hands, then this is the place for you.

What is the "The Way of the Worm"?

“The Way of the Worm” is a PARASITE-infested adventure by Golem Productions that was initially created for Limithron’s CABIN FEVER Jam in 2024, and was then awarded “Best Adventure” of the jam. In it, players will get to know Crique des Vermineux, a serene fishing village at first glance. But those who dwell here ultimately live to feed the Mother of Worms.

So far, “The Way of the Worm” has been published digital-only as well as as part of Limithron’s CABIN FEVER book. It has never been printed as its own zine, though. This said, unlike “The Scarlet Coral Citadel”, this is not a new enhanced version but the one that was already awarded “Best Adventure”. If you want to quickly bring the adventure to the table as a handy zine, this is for you!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
